My perspective of our Art class is for my students to have a place that gives them an opportunity to express themselves in a different way; that they normally cannot do in their general classrooms. Together, your kiddo and I will explore some of my most favorite kinds of Art and ways to make Art. I do not expect every kiddo to be a master artist, but I do want them to always try their best and also have an open creative mind. I find many ways to engage my kiddos; whether that be featuring a new and really cool artist, what we are creating, how we make our projects, songs and rhymes about our "Art Smart Words," or the fun games/activities I use to assess the kiddos.
This year in Art we will be learning about a variety of styles, techniques, media, and themes to help express these individual characteristics. Some of the learned techniques will include drawing, painting, collage, ceramics, printing, sculpture and weaving. Students will get to experiment with a variety of media that include pencil, crayons, colored pencils, found objects, markers, oil and chalk pastel, paints, clay, and ink.
I do have to abide by the Indiana Visual Art Education Standards, but with Art, we have more freedom to fill those needs in ways that engage the students.
